Pony Blog 2010

November - NPS Area 4 Points Competition - Highfox Hermione Champion First Ridden Pony and Reserve Show Hunter Pony; and yet another nice surprise!

NNFPSG Pony Points Competition -  Highfox Hermione and Philippa have just discovered that they are the 2011 Junior Champions and Reserve Supreme over all in the Northern points competition. Well done girls, another nice surprise.

October - Samsons Spy has come back in to work and is being ridden by Philippa. Both Finale and Rainy Day Girl are covered and in foal for 2011. Valerie Russell is doing a little piece for Native Pony about Hermione, championing the 'smaller' New Forest pony. A nice surprise.

September - Sadly Forever slipped her foal for no apparent reason, so she will be covered yet again in the New Year.  Sad and frustrating!

August -

We had a quiet time at the New Forest Breed Show 2010 as we only took one pony.

Highfox Hermione competed for the first time under saddle jumping clear in the workers and collecting a number of good placings in big ridden classes against the larger ponies and adult riders, winning the Best 128cm, Best Rider, Best PC Member prizes along  the way. It was Philippa's first go in the proper ridden classes. The pair excelled themselves by getting into the Johnny Bradford Championship, for owner ridden ponies at their first attempt.. Hermione is pictured above and below with Philippa and her prizes.

 Malvern 2010

Highfox Hermione at the National Pony Society Summer Championships 2010.

Philippa and Hermione attempted their first proper WHP classes at their fifth show together, the NPS Summer Championships (nothing like being thrown in at the deep end!) ,jumping two clear rounds over testing courses, that caught out many very experienced ponies. The icing on the cake was when the Princess Royal turned up tp present the prizes! The girls also qualified for the evening performance in the novice junior ridden. What a good start......next year?

July  - It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Highfox Royal Romance aged nineteen. She was lucky enough to end her life much loved and we send our sympathy to Ella and Rachel.

Furzley Charaiide has qualified for HOYS WHP so pleased. What a clever boy! SIXTH PLACE!!!!

Philippa and Hermione enjoyed a great day at Ryburn Valley PC's Rally.

They particularly enjoyed jumping their first WHP course. See video....apologies I missed filming the first two jumps, whoops!

June - Philippa and Hermione went showjumping for the very first time and won the beginners class in a jump off time of 31 seconds and the junior novice in 29 seconds....first time for both of them in classes well into double figures. They also won the open ridden large breeds M&M class from a Dales and a section D!

A special new arrival; at twelve noon 13/6/10 Rainy Day Girl produced the first Highfox colt since 1998. A cracking big boy. Named by Philippa, he is now officially Highfox Hallelujah (more pics on Facebook). A brother for Faith, First Love, Evensong, Hosanna, Soloist and Forever .... what a dynasty, courtesy of a thirteen hand Forest bred mare Rainy Day Girl. Thank you 'Izzie'.

Hallelujah may possibly be for sale,at weaning.

Finale is believed to be in foal to Spy!! One excited Philippa.

May - SDRC Annual Show, Monday 31st May

Photo taken at the end of a fun and successful day, with a young pony beginning to get the idea of the ridden job (second time out);Qual PUK Novice First Ridden M&M, Open First Ridden M&M, Hunter Pony, Riding Pony and Young Handler. Well done girls and how lovely not to have to do anything but watch ....oh and plait!

Highfox Hermione and Philippa 31/5/10

NNFPSG Annual Show (NFPBCS Elite Show) Sunday 16th May

Highfox Evensong (a last minute entry with a reluctant handler) had a successful day winning the four and over mare and gelding NF class; the NF In-Hand Championship; the Overall NF Championship; the M&M In - Hand Silver Medal Championship and then standing Supreme M&M in Show.

Highfox Hermione finally made her ridden debut and was a good third in the NPS First Ridden qualifier much to Philippa's delight, picking up all the 'best' New Forest prizes on the way. As the only entry in the small NF in hand she picked up a clutch of rosettes here too....all good practice ... even if she was less than impressed at being all alone!

Moneyhills Night Light - sold to Cas Thrall and daughter Polly as a yearling - also had a good day winning a big Forest Bred class. Well done, lovely to see him looking so well and happy.

Highfox Royal Romance Aged 19, with Ella aged 8 ..... the long awaited photo!

Highfox Finale has now been covered by Spy and we are crossing everything and hoping she will be in foal as a result.

Highfox Faith is leaving us in the next week or two. We are really sad to let her go, as she is one of the best we have bred, but we know she has found a super new home, where she is likely to be thoroughly spoilt...in the nicest possible way.

Samsons Spy has come back into work and is lunging and long reining beautifully; he will be hacked about and schooled in between his stud duties, but at this point there are no plans to show him in 2010.  We have also decided to reluctantly look for homes for one or two ponies; see 'For Sale' page.

Furzley Charaide has qualified for the RIHS workers. So pleased, congratulations to all connections.

April -  Sad news from East Anglia. Mrs Barbara Stiles rang to say she has had to have the lovely mare Fijal Prelude put to sleep at the good age of 28. Prelude was the dam of Maestro and grandam of Forever, Soloist, Hosanna, Evensong, Finale, Finesse and Love Song and great grandam of Figaro and Hermione. Hopefully Prelude will have a posthumous, Highfox great, grandchild later this year, as Forever is believed in foal.

Ella and Highfox Royal Romance won their first red rosette at a local show together in Ilkley. Well done you two! Picture please....

A good start under saddle for the small mare Highfox First Love who won her first ever dressage test for owner Gwen Sawyer (aged just four years old, well not quite as she was  born at the end of May). 'Leah' was ridden by regular jockey Hayley.  It looks like this little mare is going to take after her sire the sport graded dressage and jumping pony Furzley Charaide.

No foals due til June and July this year, but the mares are blossoming and Spy will run with Highfox Finale this spring and a couple of visiting mares. It looks like Highfox Faith may be (reluctantly on our part) leaving us, but in order to go to a lovely family home, not too far away.

March - Hermione is busy with PC activities and learning to jump.

She enjoyed her first meeting with her 'aunty' Highfox Royal Romance (pictured below many years ago as a yearling) they had a lovely hack around the Saint Ives Estate together (21/3/10) with their respective young jockeys. Thanks to Ella and Rachel for giving an old pony a lovely home.

February - Snow, snow, more snow oh and ice!  We were delighted when Highfox Royal Romance's new connections got in touch. Now an elderly lady, she has found a fabulous new home with Ella and Rachel (hopefully the last of many) just a few miles away from here.

January  -   Ringwood Brewery Performance Pony Competition (2009)

Very well done to:

Alison Pink and Highfox Hosanna (Fijal Maestro x Rainy Day Girl) for winning the Driving section of the national NFPB&CS Ringwood Brewery Performance Competition (Out of Town Trophy), coming third in the novice performance category and fifth overall;

Cath Harrison, Hannah Carrick and Furzley Charaide for winning the WHP, Dressage, Novice and Stallion sections and standing second overall;

Philippa Hadwen and Highfox Finale (Fijal Maestro x Kingsbury Love Affair II) for winning the best Owner Bred Trophy (Lomonside Trophy) and standing sixth overall

I am so proud of you all; what a lovely start to the year. Thank you!
